Threatened Species in Mixed Forest

The Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake (Sistrurus catenatus) is Ontario's only venomous snake .  It has been seen in the Burwash area. It is a  Threatened Species and is protected under Ontario's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. Significant areas of the habitat frequented by the Massasauga Rattlesnake are protected under the Natural Heritage component of the Provincial Policy Statement under Ontario's Planning Act.
